CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. -- Someone with deep pockets and a very tender heart must have a deep affection for table servers who are single mothers.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, in early November, Aimee O'Claire and Georgeann Escorza, both servers at Nick's Pizza & Pub in Crystal Lake, each received anonymous tips of $1,000.
"We were really surprised," said O'Claire, a 25-year-old single mother from Elgin, who was given the money by owner Nick Sarillo during a staff meeting before her Friday night shift. "My initial reaction was to find out who did it."
O'Claire has a 7-year-old son, and Escorza, who is in her late 20s, has a son and daughter both of whom are under 10.
Sarillo said he was given strict orders to keep his mouth shut about the identity of the anonymous tipper.
"They don't want me to tell anybody because they don't want to be treated any differently when they come in," he said. "They said it was a tough decision because we have such a great staff," Sarillo said.
Sarillo said the next-highest tip given at the restaurant came about four months ago when a customer tipped a waitress $500.
