Aspiring food truck operators to battle during Food Network show

Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race is returning for its third season Aug. 19, with host Tyler Florence.

This year's season will feature a new twist – the race is no longer a competition between current food truck operators as in prior seasons. Rather, this competition will be between eight teams who are trying to get their foot into the food truck business.

Each three-person team is provided a vehicle for the race, but only the grand prize winner gets to keep their food truck and a $50,000 cash prize to start their own business.

The teams specialize in cuisine such as mini pies, Australian dishes and specialty waffles. The competing trucks will serve their dishes across the country, beginning in Long Beach, Calif., and ending at the West Quoddy Lighthouse in Maine. This season's Great Food Truck Race will span seven episodes.

"We love food trucks because they offer a relatively low cost, infinitely creative route to entering the food world. Casting aspiring food truck owners this season really amps up the competition – these teams are literally fighting for their dream," said Bob Tuschman, general manager and senior vice president, Food Network. "Their culinary skills, business savvy and entrepreneurial spirit will be road-tested, and viewers will love seeing if the aspiring chefs' dreams hold up when the rubber meets the road."

This season's teams are: Barbie Babes (Los Angeles via Australia), Coast of Atlanta (Atlanta), Momma's Grizzly Grub (Wasilla, Ala.), Nonna's Kitchenette (Parsippany/West Caldwell, N.J.), Pizza Mike's (Columbus, Ohio), Pop-A-Waffle (Los Angeles), Seoul Sausage (Los Angeles) and Under the Crust (San Diego).
