TAMWORTH, Australia -- Residents have secured their place in the country's history books by setting a national record for consumption of Domino's pizzas.

According to a news release, Domino's Tamworth store sold 3,391 pizzas on June 22, the largest one-day tally in Domino's Pizza Australia's 25-year history.

CEO Don Meij said the pile of pizzas sold equalled the weekly average number of pies sold at the store.

"(T)hat's more than seven pizzas being cooked each minute!" Meij said.

The pizza-eating frenzy occurred during the store's Customer Appreciation Day. The release didn't say whether customers were offered incentives but did say 1,152 patrons placed orders. During the day's busiest hour, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., 229 orders were placed.

"Probably the hardest task was keeping the pizza make line stocked for the pizza makers," Meij said.

Domino's Pizza Australia runs 240 stores across the country.
