Breakfast pizza test underway at Papa John's

Associated Press: Hoping to generate sales in the breakfast daypart, Papa John's is conducting a single-unit test of 6-inch pizza omelettes and pizza pastries in Louisville, Ky., where it's based.

The breakfast offerings, which run from $2.99 to $3.49, are assembled on parbaked shells that the chain uses in its stadium applications.

"It's the same shell, but when you cook it with eggs rather than pizza sauce, it gives it more of the texture of a biscuit," said Rich Butler, general manager of the store testing the breakfast menu.

The store, which is located in the city's downtown business section, also delivers at breakfast.
