July 28, 2011

Detroit-based Buddy's Pizza is celebrating its 65th anniversary with new pizzas flavors, including a tribute to Kid Rock and the Detroit Zoo, according to the Detroit News.

The company now has about 500 employees and nine locations and has modeled the birthday pizzas after four nonprofits: The Detroit Zoo, Detroit Institute of Arts, The Henry Ford and the Parade Co. One dollar from each of the pizzas sold will be donated to its designated non-profit through 2011.

Buddy's is also dedicating a pizza to one of the city's best-known advocates. Kid Rock's Badass Detroiter pizza adds the singer's American Badass Beer to the crust's ingredients.

The Detroit Zoo Pizza has a cheese blend, basil, pine nuts and tomato basil sauce, while the Detroit Parade Company Pizza features a cheese blend, carrots, grape tomatoes and tomato basil sauce. The Henry Ford comes topped with a cheese blend, red onions, seasoned ground beef, smoked bacon, bleu cheese and tomato basil sauce, and the Detroit Institute of Arts is a combo of cheese, a spinach & artichoke blend, capers and roasted tomatoes.

Buddy's is looking to expand in Metro Detroit in the next 12 to 18 months.
