California pizzeria crowdsources for new recipe

La Vera Pizza, a nearly 30-year-old, family-owned Santa Rosa, Calif., pizzeria, is hosting a "celebrity pizza chef" contest this month.

The contest gives local residents the opportunity to receive recognition for their pizza creations and to be featured on La Vera's menu. The contest has been narrowed down to five finalists and the winner will be selected Nov. 30.

The winner of the contest will be selected through a social voting system implemented on the company's Facebook page and also visible on the restaurant's website. Contestants are encouraged to invite their family and friends to "Like" La Vera¹s Facebook page to vote. All La Vera Pizza Facebook fans can cast one vote for their preferred contestant every day for the remainder of the contest.

The finalist contestants are competing for several prizes, which include:

  • An in-restaurant party in their honor, wherein the winner receives two 18-inch pizzas for themselves and seven guests;
  • The opportunity to receive one free pizza every month for an entire year; and
  • Having their winning pizza entry, with a name of their choosing, be featured on La Vera's menu as a regular offering.

"We're thrilled to have a group of truly wonderful people from the community competing to be our celebrity pizza chef, including some really innovative pizza creations from the group. We'd be proud to have any of their creations grace our menu, and we're excited along with everyone else to find out which will be chosen as the winner by our community of fans and friends," said Sue and Ric Kade, La Vera Pizza's owners.
