TIANJIN, China -- Pizza Hut said it does not plan to franchise any of its China stores despite strong demand for more units.
According to China Daily, J. Samuel Su, president of Tricon Greater China, said the company believes it can better control its operations in a corporate-store structure.
"We have to be prudent ... because we must guarantee the quality of the products we provide and services we offer to protect our brand," Su said during the Jan. 17 dedication ceremony of China Pizza Hut store 100 in Tianjin. "(W)e will never seek blind expansion for the sake of money."
Tianjin now has two Pizza Huts, compared with five in Shanghai. The first Pizza Hut in China opened in 1990 in the capital city of Beijing.
That market will get takeout service this year, Su said, "(so) maybe you will not have to line up to dine any more."
