CiCi’s gets new CMO, CDO

CiCi's Pizza has announced the addition of Bill Spae as chief development officer.  

As CDO, Spae will focus on brand re-imaging, development strategy and execution, expansion in underserved and target markets and nontraditional locations, franchisee recruitment, and international development.

Before coming on board with Texas-based CiCi’s Pizza, Spae was a franchisee of Taco Bueno, CEO of Palm Beach Tan, president of Bennigan’s Grill & Tavern, and president of the Steak and Ale Division of Metromedia Restaurant Group.

“My goal is growth, growth and more growth that’s both strategic and profitable,” Spae said. “CiCi’s Pizza is ideally positioned to expand. Our value proposition is incredibly attractive, and the concept is relevant anywhere in the country. I look forward to speaking with all interested parties who have a desire to become a CiCi’s franchisee or who may have development opportunities for the CiCi’s brand."

The brand has undergone a total leadership overhaul since last fall, when new CEO Mike Shumsky came on to help restructure the company and its goals. Shumsky's initiatives have included a leadership makeover, a redefinition of marketing goals, and a trek around the nation to personally meet 80 percent of franchisees.

As of last month, the brand announced record-breaking grand openings in the new locations, underdeveloped locations they’re targeting in their current expansion mode.

The Coppell, Texas-based chain operates more than 600 stores in 35 states.
