Commodities update - Week of April 27, 2009

CHICAGO -- Block cheese price activity on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was relatively quiet last week, with prices averaging just under $1.18 per pound for the trading week ended April 24, unchanged from the previous week.
 
Block cheese prices closed at $1.17 per pound on Monday and $1.18 per pound the rest of the week. Prices are off 76 cents, or 39 percent, compared with this time last year when block cheese averaged $1.94 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat prices for May delivery rose steadily last week, closing at $6.65 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, up 29 cents from $6.36 per bushel the last day of the previous trading week. Prices had closed at $6.26 per bushel Monday, just above $6.33 per bushel Tuesday, just above $6.53 per bushel Wednesday and $6.69 per bushel on Thursday.
 
Gasoline and diesel fuel   The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.05 per gallon April 27, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off a penny from the previous week.   Prices are up slightly from an average of $2.04 per gallon a month ago and off 43 percent from an average of $3.60 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.18 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.26 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.26 per gallon April 27, up 3 cents from last week. Diesel prices are off 47 percent from an average of $4.23 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas
 
Natural gas spot prices fell at most market locations in the lower 48 states last week, according to the Energy Information Administration. On April 22, the last day of EIA's report week, prices traded at or below $4 per million Btu at all market locations.
 
The Henry Hub spot market price fell by 12 cents, or 3 percent, over the week to $3.48 per MMBtu.
 
Pizza company stocks
 
Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc opened at $33.71 on April 27, up 6 percent compared with last Monday's open of $31.90. Yum traded at a 52-week high of $41.73 in May 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.
 
Domino's opened at $8.17, up 18 percent compared with last week's open of $6.90. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in April 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.
 
Papa John's stock opened at $26.57, up 9 percent compared with last Monday's open of $24.27. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.
 
Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, opened at $31.48, up slightly compared with last Monday's open of $30.91. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in May 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.
 
California Pizza Kitchen opened at $16.53 on April 27, up 7 percent compared with last week's open of $15.41. Over the past 52 weeks, CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 last week and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.
 
Pizza Inn opened at $1.45, up 21 percent compared with last Monday's open of $1.20. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.83 in April 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
