Commodities update - Week of July 13, 2009

CHICAGO -- Block cheese prices slipped again this week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, with prices averaging $1.11 per pound for the trading week ended July 10, off a penny from the previous week.
 
Prices held at slightly above $1.11 Monday through Thursday before falling to $1.09 on Friday   Prices are off 80 cents, or 42 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.91 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat for July delivery closed at just above $6.02 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 16 cents from the previous week's close. Wheat had closed at just under $6.22 per bushel Monday, $6.09 per bushel Tuesday, $6.01 per bushel Wednesday and $6.05 per bushel on Thursday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel   The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.53 per gallon July 13, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off 8 cents from the previous week.   Prices are off 5 percent from an average of $2.65 per gallon a month ago and off 35 percent from an average of $4.10 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.69 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.78 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.57 per gallon July 13, off a penny from last week. Diesel prices are off 47 percent from an average of $4.82 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas
 
Natural gas prices posted across-the-board decreases at both the spot and futures markets for the report week ended July 8. Price decreases at the spot market ranged between 1 and 44 cents per million Btu, although a few areas in the lower 48 states posted small increases.
 
The price at the Henry Hub spot market fell to $3.22 per MMBtu during the report week, off 11 percent compared with the previous week.
 
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $34.98 on July 10, up 73 cents compared with the previous week's close of $34.25. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $7.63, off 2 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $7.65. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in August 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $26.49, up $1.77 compared with the previous Friday's close of $24.72. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $31.37, up $2.17 cents compared with the previous week's close of $29.20. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in August 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $14.76 on July 10, up $1.30 compared with the previous week's close of $13.46. CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.    Pizza Inn closed at $1.55 on July 10, off 45 cents compared with the previous week's close of $2.00. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
