Commodities update - Week of July 6, 2009

CHICAGO -- Block cheese prices were unchanged during the shortened trading week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, with prices averaging just under $1.12 per pound for the trading week ended July 2.
 
The markets were closed Friday for the July 4 holiday.   Prices are off 80 cents, or 42 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.92 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat for July delivery closed at $6.18 per bushel Thursday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 49 cents from the previous Friday's close. Wheat had closed at just under $6.52 per bushel Monday, $6.36 per bushel Tuesday and just under $6.27 per bushel on Wednesday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel
 
The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.61 per gallon July 6, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off 3 cents from the previous week.   Prices are unchanged from an average of $2.61 per gallon a month ago and off 36 percent from an average of $4.11 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.77 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.82 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.62 per gallon July 6, off a penny from last week. Diesel prices are off 45 percent from an average of $4.79 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas   Natural gas spot prices fell at most market locations east of the Rocky Mountains last week, according to the Energy Information Administration, with decreases of as much as 89 cents per million Btu.
 
Prices at the Henry Hub declined by 17 cents per MMBtu, or about 4 percent, to $3.63 per MMBtu.
 
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $34.25 on July 2, off 92 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $33.33. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in June 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $7.65, up 6 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $7.59. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in August 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $24.72, up 19 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $24.53. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $29.20, off 56 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $28.64. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in August 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $13.46 on July 2, up 19 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $13.27. Over the past 52 weeks, CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.   Pizza Inn closed at $2.00 on June 29, up 16 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $1.86. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
