Commodities update - Week of June 15, 2009

CHICAGO -- Block cheese prices remained fairly flat again last week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, with prices averaging just under $1.15 per pound for the trading week ended June 12, unchanged from the previous two weeks.   Block cheese prices closed at just under $1.15 per pound Monday and $1.15 per pound the rest of the week. 
 
Prices are off 91 cents, or 44 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $2.06 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat for July delivery closed at just above $7.32 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 11 cents from the previous Friday's close. Wheat had closed at just above $7.18 per bushel Monday, $7.43 per bushel Tuesday, just above $7.26 per bushel Wednesday and $7.34 per bushel on Thursday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel   The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.64 per gallon June 12, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, up 3 cents from the previous week.   Prices are up 16 percent from an average of $2.27 per gallon a month ago and off 44 percent from an average of $4.06 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.80 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.90 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.56 per gallon June 12, up 4 cents from last week. Diesel prices are off 47 percent from an average of $4.79 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas   Natural gas spot prices fell at most market locations in the lower 48 states last week, according to the Energy Information Administration, with the Henry Hub spot price falling to $3.56 per million Btu, a 7 percent decline from the previous week's level of $3.81 per MMBtu.
 
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $35.01 on June 12, off 75 cents compared with the previous Friday's close. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in May 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $7.89, off $1.01 compared with the previous Friday's close of $8.90. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in May 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $25.10, off $2.80 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $27.90. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $28.88, off $4.14 compared with the previous Friday's close of $33.02. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in August 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $13.44 on June 12, down 51 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $13.95. Over the past 52 weeks, CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.   Pizza Inn closed at $1.70 on June 12, up 5 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $1.65. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
