Commodities update - Week of June 29, 2009

CHICAGO -- Block cheese prices moved slightly downward last week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, with prices averaging just under $1.12 per pound for the trading week ended June 26, off a penny from the previous week.   Block cheese prices closed at just under $1.12 per pound Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and $1.12 per pound Thursday and Friday.
 
Prices are off 80 cents, or 42 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.92 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat for July delivery closed at just above $6.67 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 32 cents from the previous Friday's close. Wheat had closed at just above $6.93 per bushel Monday, just above $7.01 per bushel Tuesday, $6.93 per bushel Wednesday and just under $6.79 per bushel on Thursday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel 
The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.64 per gallon June 29, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off 5 cents from the previous week.   Prices are up 6 percent from an average of $2.49 per gallon a month ago and off 35 percent from an average of $4.09 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.80 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.90 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.63 per gallon June 29, unchanged from last week. Diesel prices are off 45 percent from an average of $4.76 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas   Natural gas spot prices generally declined last week, according to the Energy Information Administration, with the largest decreases occurring in the western half of the country.
 
During the report week, the Henry Hub spot price decreased by 19 cents per million Btu to $3.80.
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $33.33 on June 26, off $1.15 compared with the previous Friday's close of $34.48. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in June 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $7.59, up 3 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $7.56. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in June 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $24.53, off 62 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $25.15. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $28.64, off 95 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $28.64. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in August 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $13.27 on June 29, up 38 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $12.89. Over the past 52 weeks, CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.   Pizza Inn closed at $2.00 on June 29, up 16 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $1.86. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
