Commodities update - Week of Sept. 14, 2009

Block cheese price trends on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange held steady during the shortened trading week ended Sept. 11, closing at $1.27 per pound each day, off 4 cents from the previous week.   The CME was closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.
 
Prices are off 59 cents, or 32 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.86 per pound.   Wheat   Wheat for September delivery closed at just under $4.76 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 8 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $5.84.   Prices had closed at just under $4.72 per bushel on Tuesday, $4.74 per bushel Wednesday and just above $4.72 per bushel Thursday.   Gasoline and diesel fuel   The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.57 per gallon Sept. 14, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off a penny from the previous week.   Prices are off 3 percent from an average of $2.64 per gallon a month ago and off 33 percent from an average of $3.80 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.73 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.83 per gallon.   The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.67 per gallon Sept. 14, unchanged from last week. Diesel prices are off 33 percent from an average of $4.19 per gallon this time last year.   Natural gas
 
Natural gas prices posted significant increases at all market locations since the previous report week, according to the Energy Information Administration. The Henry Hub spot price increased 47 cents to $2.72 per million BTU on Sept. 9 from the previous Wednesday's price of $2.25 per MMBtu. However, intraweek trading was volatile, with natural gas prices falling below $2 per MMBtu at the Henry Hub on Sept. 4.
 
Pizza company stocks   Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $33.40 on Sept. 4, off 64 cents compared with the previous week's close of $34.04. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.   Domino's closed at $8 off 7 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $8.07. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $13.70 in September 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.   Papa John's stock closed at $23.69, up 51 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $23.18. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.   Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $27.58, up 59 cents compared with the previous week's close of $26.99. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.   California Pizza Kitchen closed at $13.97 on Sept. 11, off 16 cents compared with the previous week's close of $14.13. CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.   Pizza Inn closed at $1.69 on Sept. 11, unchanged from last week, compared with the previous week's close of $1.70. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
