Comps for Sept. and Q3 up 4 percent at Papa John's Pizza

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Papa John's Pizza said domestic system-wide comparable-store sales for the five weeks ended Sept. 24, 2006, increased 4.6 percent (composed of a 5.1 percent increase at company-owned stores and a 4.4 percent increase at franchised stores).
 
Domestic system-wide comps for the quarter ended Sept. 24 increased 4.5 percent (composed of a 4.3 percent increase at company-owned stores and a 4.5 percent increase at franchised stores). For the first nine months of the year, comps rose 4.4 percent (composed of a 5 percent increase at company-owned stores and a 4.3 percent increase at franchise stores).
 
International sales for Papa John's-branded units increased 32.4 percent for September, 30.9 percent for the quarter-to-date and 27.7 percent for the year-to-date, on a constant U.S. dollar basis, over the comparable periods last year.
 
The company also said it paid $8.8 million for 11 franchised stores in the Raleigh, N.C., market in September.
 
As of Sept. 24, there were 2,978 Papa John's units.
