Delivery driver's kidnapper arrested

Nov. 14, 2002

HOMESTEAD, Pa. -- Local police arrested one person and are seeking a second on charges that they held up and kidnapped a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint and stole his car.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, police arrested a 16-year-old Homestead youth on Nov. 11 and charged him with carjacking, kidnapping, aggravated assault, armed robbery, reckless endangerment and traffic violations. He was charged as an adult and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

That youth was arrested behind the wheel of the delivery driver's car after police were alerted to the kidnapping by an anonymous tipster who witnessed it.

The kidnapping occurred after someone called Capri Pizza in Homestead and placed an order for delivery. As the delivery driver got out of his car, two men approached him and pulled a gun on him, police said.

The pair then took the driver's money, forced him into the back seat of his Chevrolet Impala and drove from Homestead across the Monongahela River to Duck Hollow. The driver was then ordered out of the car and the pair drove away.

Unhurt, the delivery driver walked to a nursing home where he called police.

A short time later, a Homestead officer spotted the car and pulled it over. The 16-year-old jumped out and ran, but a pair of officers caught him two blocks away.
