DeIorio Foods Inc. of Utica, N.Y., has attained Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification from the SQF Institute, with SGS Australia as the certifying body.
This certification is globally recognized as a benchmark for the food safety industry. In order to qualify for this achievement, businesses must receive certification on an ongoing basis; must adhere to strict guidance documents for their specific food industry sector; and must meet a third-party assessment to verify adherence to the requirements of the SQF Code.
According to Director of Corporate Services Gloria Russett, the SQF certification can be likened to the "Good Housekeeping" seal of approval.
"In order to obtain this certification, DeIorio's first submitted to a pre-audit, and then a document review," Russett said. "Finally, there was a facility audit which was a full three-day process. We were pleased that there were no major or critical non-conformities."
DeIorio Foods Inc. is a pizza, bread and rolls producer and currently offers more than 200 frozen dough products that are distributed to 40 states.
