Gyrene Burger, a military-themed restaurant from Tom Monaghan, founder of Domino's Pizza, has opened in Knoxville, Tenn.
Gyrene Burger is a delivery quick-service restaurant that features "burgers as big as your head" made from 100-percent Angus beef that is never frozen, and hand-cut fries, according to a news release.
It also launched its new, upgraded website this week, at GyreneBurger.com.
"Hamburgers are even more popular than pizzas, and since I know a thing or two about home delivery, it was natural for me to put the two together." Monaghan said.
Gyrene Burger's new flagship store is located along the University of Tennessee's Cumberland Avenue "Strip." It is owned by franchisee Rob Wynkoop.
Founded in 2011, Gyrene Burger Company first opened in Naples, Fla., before expanding to Knoxville. The name Gyrene Burger Company is a nod to Monaghan's time as a U.S. Marine. Pronounced "Jigh-reen" it is thought to have gotten it's use from the combination of the Army vernacular of G.I. and the Corps' Marine, the release said.
