The People's Pizza will be featured on Domino's Pizza UK menus in 2013. The pizza was created by 37-year-old Maria Tyrrell, who was the grand prize winner of a national competition run by UK TV Show "This Morning" in conjunction with Domino's.
The competition invited viewers to submit pizza topping ideas to create the People's Pizza. The top three ideas were judged by a panel of experts including This Morning's Phil Vickery, star of The Only Way is Essex, Mario Falcone and Domino's new product development chef, Chris Denoven.
Tyrrell was announced as the winner with her "Chimi Chicken" pizza in a public vote live on This Morning.
Featuring a combination of chicken in an Argentinean style chimichurri marinade with yellow and red peppers, Tyrrell's Chimi Chicken pizza uses her family's own authentic chimichurri sauce recipe.
"We are delighted to be supporting this competition on ITV's most iconic daytime TV show and look forward to launching the winning entry, the People's Pizza, in our stores next year," said Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director for Domino's Pizza UK.
Domino's Australia launches Cheesy Crust
Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd., parent company of Domino's in Australia and New Zealand, has introduced the Cheesy Crust, which features a cheddar cheese-stuffed outer crust.
CEO Don Meij said the company had been testing the product for months.
"Our customers have been asking us to make this product for months, but we didn't want to launch anything until we had a product that clearly delivered great flavor, texture and taste," Meij said. "I am so proud of this product; I know customers will absolutely love it."
The Cheesy Crust features mozzarella cheese with 30 percent less fat.
Domino's Australia also launch a $2 Tasty Treats Menu with a variety of snacks for $2, including two new products, Cheesy Bites and Cinni Bites.
The Cheesy Bites are bite-size savory balls covered in parmesan and Swiss cheese and covered with garlic butter, while Cinni Bites are covered in cinnamon sugar.
