Donatos Pizza introduced two new gluten-free platforms this month in its hometown market of Columbus, Ohio. They will roll out systemwide beginning Aug. 26.
The brand partnered with Udi's Gluten Free Foods to introduce the offerings at all 62 Central Ohio Donatos Pizza locations. The new program offers both gluten-free Udi's pizza crusts topped with Donatos toppings, as well as a choice of certified gluten-free Donatos Take & Bake Pizzas (also made on Udi's pizza crusts) that can be purchased in-store and prepared in customers' own homes.
"We're thrilled to offer an entirely new concept in gluten-free pizza to our customers," said Stacie Skinner, Donatos R&D chef and gluten-free cook. "By providing our guests two delicious choices to address their gluten-free pizza cravings, we're able to offer the great taste of Donatos Pizza to a whole new group of customers."
Skinner has a gluten sensitive son and is featured in Donatos' advertising materials highlighting the new offerings.
Donatos customers with gluten sensitivity or those who want to limit gluten in their diet can enjoy any of Donatos toppings on an Udi's pizza crust and baked to order at their closest restaurant. For celiacs, Donatos offers certified gluten-free pepperoni or cheese Take & Bake pizzas that can be baked in a customer's home oven.
"Together with Donatos Pizza, Udi's will bring great-tasting, fresh food choices the whole family can enjoy, even those with unique dietary needs," said Denise Sirovatka, Udi's vice president of Marketing. "We want everyone to be able to share in a delicious, worry-free meal when dining out."
The new Gluten free pizzas are available in 12-inch sizes. A 12-inch one topping pizza is $13.29 (additional toppings are available). The 12-inch certified gluten free Take & Bake pizzas are available in cheese or pepperoni and are $13.29 each.
Recent NPD Group research shows that 30 percent of adults want to limit gluten intake.
