Donatos shutters six stores near Cincinnati

March 19, 2002

Donatos Inc. will close six of its 21 company-owned outlets in the Tri-State area, an area including Cincinnati and the surrounding areas of Northern Kentucky, Southeast Indiana.

According to the Business Courier, the move resulted from the Columbus, Ohio-based company's increased focus on a full-service pizzerias.

Greg Nelson, market director for Donatos said the stores were too focused on delivery and carryout business to fit the company's new initiatives.

The shuttered stores "just didn't meet the pizzeria concept that we're going for," said Nelson. Donatos, he added, isn't abandoning the Cincinnati market, an area dominated by La Rosa's Pizza. The Cincinnati chain has more than 50 stores in that market alone.
