COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Donatos Pizza will open its first international store in Munich this fall.
According to a report on Foodservicetoday.com, two more stores are expected in late 2002 or early '03.
The stores will be run by Donatos Deutschland, an arm of McDonald's Deutschland. All stores will be company-owned.
Lagging same-store sales at McDonald's stores has invigorated the company's drive to expand its non-burger companies.
Tom Krouse, senior vice president of marketing at Donatos called the step east a tremendous opportunity because the pizza market in Germany "is pretty fractured and is pretty low on the quality end."
On March 31, Donato's fiscal year end, it had 192 stores, 26 more than the year prior.
