DETROIT -- Hawkins Food Group, a franchisor of 118 Pizza Hut stores, appointed Conrad Mallett, a former Michigan Supreme Court justice, as its CEO on April 3.

According to the Detroit News, La-Van Hawkins, the company's founder, called Mallett a great administrator and leader with high credibility in Detroit.

Mallett will work to assemble a team to lead Hawkins Food Group toward a public offering by 2004.

In March Hawkins announced plans to spend $20 million to open six fine-dining restaurants in Detroit by 2006. To operate the restaurant, Hawkins formed Lineage Group Two.

The announcement of the formation of Lineage Group Two came just one week after Michigan officials seized eight of Hawkins' Pizza Hut restaurants in a brief tax dispute. The restaurants have since reopened.
