Fresh Brothers secures funding from Sketchers co-founder for growth

June 13, 2012

Fresh Brothers, a six-unit chain of pizzerias located in Southern California, has received an equity investment from Michael Greenberg, co-founder and president of Manhattan Beach-based shoe company Skechers USA Inc. Greenberg's investment will help accelerate growth as the company aims to increase to 100-plus units.

Founded in 2008 by Adam Goldberg, there are six Fresh Brothers units which feature dine-in, take-out and pizza delivery. Two additional units are under development in Santa Monica and Brentwood, Calif.

Greenberg said he chose to invest in Fresh Brothers "because of their commitment to serving high quality food while focusing on loyalty-based customer service." Greenberg has Skechers stores in 600 locations worldwide.

So far, Greenberg has identified 39 potential new locations within the Southern California market.

"We plan to double or triple our growth within the next two years," he said.

Fresh Brothers features a thin crust, Midwest-style pizza and a deep dish. The menu also includes baked chicken wings and a create-your-own salad line, as well as a gluten-free and vegan menu which was developed using a training program by National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

The chain's "Fresh Kids Special" has been featured on The Doctors television show for its ingenuity, as it includes a pizza sauce mixed with a blend of five fresh vegetables that are ground into pieces as small as minced garlic.
