Ian's Pizza in Madison, Wisc., has teamed up with All Pro Eating to create a sanctioned National Pizza Eating Championship Sept. 21 in Downtown Madison on State Street.
According to a news release, the Ian's Pizza National Pizza Eating Championship is the only officially sanctioned and officially recognized National Pizza Eating Championship that will be held in the 2013 Competitive Eating sport calendar. It is being sanctioned by All Pro Eating.
The event will award $2,250 in prize money including a $1,000 First Place prize.
"Madison, Wisconsin is emphatically known for it's food, it's sports fans and it's revelry. After The Ian's Pizza Eating Championship has concluded and the only true National Pizza Eating Champion is named, Madison, Wisconsin will also forever be known as the Nation's Capital of Pizza Eating Champions," said Todd Greenwald, chairman of All Pro Eating.
The Ian's Pizza National Pizza Eating Championship is part of a full day of events in Madison and will follow the University of Wisconsin and Purdue football game.
It is the seventh year Ian's has hosted an eating contest, but the first to feature support from All Pro Eating.
"This year is going to bigger and better than all of the years past. We are very excited to be the host of what could be the new record in competitive pizza eating this year, and for years to come,' said Adam May, marketing director.
