Japanese get a slice of BK’s Pizza Burger

Dec. 9, 2010

In September, New Yorkers got their first taste of Burger King’s Pizza Burger, served at the company’s Whopper Bar in Times Square.

Now, the Japanese are getting a slice. According to Japan Probe, the New York Pizza Burger is now being sold at Japan’s Whopper Bar.

The massive item features six burger patties, American cheese, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce served on an almost-10-inch sesame seed bun. The burger is served in slices and meant for sharing.

It is being sold for 1,680 yen, or about $20.

According to Serious Eats, Burger King Japan also is offering the Pizza Burger as part of a holiday set, sold for $35.50. Other menu items in the set include a holiday chicken salad, BK Tenders, BK cheese bits and onion rings.

Burger King’s Pizza Burger contains 2,530 calories and 144 grams of fat.

The timing of its introduction may be beneficial, as hamburger sales in Japan have risen dramatically since mid-2009.
