Kraft's DiGiorno 'convenient meals' segment Q3 key area of growth

Kraft's U.S. Beverages and U.S. Convenient Meals segments -- the latter of which includes DiGiorno frozen pizza brand -- were the only two segments Kraft foods posted as earning net revenues in their recent third quarter earnings statement. The convenient meals segment was on top with an increase of 5 percent revenue growth over Q3 2008.
 
According to a company statement, pizza generated double-digit growth behind further gains in market share for Kraft. Incremental investments in value-oriented consumer programs drove more than 20 percent growth in DiGiorno pizza. Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh meats also delivered double-digit growth. The planned discontinuation of less-profitable product lines slowed growth by approximately 1 percentage point.
