Baseball fan Mike LaRosa is sharing some of his enthusiasm by offering LaRosa's customers free pizza if Cincinnati Reds pitchers strike out at least 11 hitters in a game.
Attendees can bring their ticket stub to LaRosa's and receive a small, one-topping pie for free according to Cincinnati.com. LaRosa's free pizza promotion was introduced three seasons ago, inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers taco give away for scoring 100 points and holding the opposition to under 100.
"It got us beyond the hanging-sign advertising," LaRosa said in the article.
The company has spent $605,000 this year on the promotion. The previous year's expenses amounted to $1.2 million, partly due to the fact that customers were entitled to more than one topping. Mike LaRosa issued a small stipend last season to franchisees to keep expenses down.
LaRosa said, "The way to look at it is, if you really want to generate this type of brand awareness, how much would it cost? It would be 50 times what we spend now."
