Little Caesars adds Detroit-style deep dish pizza to the menu

April 1, 2013

Over the weekend, Little Caesars Pizza took to its social media channels to introduce its new "Deep! Deep!" Dish pizza. Some fans questioned the chain's timing with the announcement, wondering if it was an April Fool's Day joke.

It is not. The chain's new offering is made with fresh dough each day and is topped with cheese, then baked for a crispy crust featuring caramelized edges. In other words, it's Detroit-style pizza.

The Deep! Deep! Dish pizza is also available as a Hot-N-Ready for $8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at participating locations.

CEO and President David Scrivano told the Wall Street Journal that the chain wanted to appeal to customers who want something "a little more upscale" than its signature $5 Hot-N-Ready.

He added that franchisees are happy with the results and are supplementing the national media campaign with local campaigns.

Detroit-style pizza is made in a deep, square pan that originated from an industrial-parts tray. Little Caesars also happens to be headquartered in the Motor City.
