Lou Malnati's opens 34th restaurant

Chicago pizza staple Lou Malnati's has opened its 34th restaurant in Shorewood, a suburb located southwest of the Windy City.

According to the Herald News, the new unit will offer carryout, delivery and catering, and will feature deep dish pizza, pasta, salads and sandwiches.

Lou Malnati and his wife Jean opened their first pizzeria in Lincolnwood, a northern suburb of Chicago, on March 17, 1971.

Every Lou Malnati's pizza is handmade from scratch using California vine-ripened tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese from the same small dairy that has supplied the business for more than 40 years.

The company also ships 250,000-plus pizzas a year throughout the country, and its shipping component has grown into a separate business, functioning under Lou Malnati's Pizzeria's Taste of Chicago Division.
