LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. reported March 28 that estimated sales at its Pizza Hut company stores in the U.S. during the four-week period ended March 23, 2002, were flat compared to the same period in 2001. Overall, its U.S. blended same-store sales at company restaurants, which also include Taco Bell and KFC, increased 4 percent during the period.
For the entire first quarter '02, estimated same-store sales at U.S. company Pizza Huts were up 2 percent, and blended same-store sales at all company restaurants increased 5 percent.
For the four-week period ended March 23, estimated international system sales increased 7 percent prior to foreign-currency conversion, or 2 percent after conversion to U.S. dollars.
The company reported that timing of the Chinese New Year unfavorably impacted international system sales growth in the period, but that it would benefit sales in the next period.
For the first quarter and year to date, estimated international system sales increased 9 percent prior to foreign-currency conversion, or 4 percent after conversion to U.S. dollars.
