COLUMBIA, Md.—POS provider MICROS Systems announced that 92-unit casual dining chain Bertucci's Corp., is deploying 442 MICROS Workstation 4s (WS4) to replace its legacy MICROS Ultra and Eclipse PC Workstations terminals.

According to a news release, the MICROS WS4 includes a client application loader that allows simple self-installation, easy upgrading and remote management of software applications. Additionally, the WS4 requires no hard drive or fan, reducing a key point of failure and allowing the device to operate almost silently.

"We tested the MICROS WS4 in select locations and found the product's outstanding reliability maximized uptime, and reduced maintenance costs," said Jim Lux, vice president, information technology at of the Italian-themed Bertucci's. "We were specifically pleased with the client application loader that allows for very simple self-installations."

"The MICROS WS4 has been the most successful MICROS hardware platform in our history," said Alan Hayman, executive vice president, restaurant sales and strategies at MICROS Systems. "The WS4 is fast, easy to deploy, and offers a compact reliable POS package that integrates easily into the Bertucci's environment."

The MICROS WS4 is built on the Microsoft Windows CE .NET platform, an open system design that allows interoperability with Windows-compatible applications and POS peripherals.
