Mobipay intros mobile payment service to Spain

VALLADOLID, Spain -- Spanish telecommunications firm Mobipay announced the introduction of its mobile payment service, and said it expects pizza delivery patrons will be among its primary users.

The system allows mobile phone users to pay for goods and services via credit card or prepaid card at the point of service. According to Expansion, using text messaging, each transaction will last 15 to 30 seconds and cost 8 euro cents (about U.S. 7 cents).

Mobipay expects 4 million Spaniards will be using the service by the end of 2004.
