Less than two weeks after opening the doors of its Fayetteville, N.C., restaurant Aug. 29, Capital Food Group, the franchisee of three Mellow Mushrooms in Eastern North Carolina, has plenty to celebrate. The new unit is the second largest opening in the chain's 27-year, 123-store history, according to Meredeth Shellnutt, director of franchise development for Mellow Mushroom's corporate office, Home Grown Industries of Georgia.
"In addition, it's the largest of 16 openings throughout the state of North Carolina," she said.
"We chose Fayetteville, N.C., as our flagship store because we knew this market needed an eclectic brand like Mellow Mushroom," said Reid Fogleman, principal owner of Capital Food Group. "Making history is special and we have our Fayetteville fans to thank for that."
Mellow Mushroom Fayetteville kicked off its opening week with a pizza-cutting ceremony to mark the store's first open day to the public. As part of the ceremony, Mellow donated $4,000 to Fayetteville Cares, a local nonprofit that provides support to military members and their families.
Mellow Mushroom Fayetteville's next community outreach will take place on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 to honor the military, police force and fire department for their service. A 10-percent food discount will be offered to all of these guests providing valid identification.
