On their own and eating pizza, according to Forbes.com ranking of cities

Being single means eating lots of pizza -- at least Forbes.com seems to think so.

In compiling its list of 40 Best Cities for Singles, one of the criteria Forbes.com considered was an estimate of the cost of being single, provided by economic researchers at Arlington, Va.-based ACCRA. The researchers' estimate was based on apartment rents, the cost of pizza, movie tickets and a six-pack of Heineken.

Forbes.com looked at the 40 most populous metropolitan areas as defined by the U.S. Census (substituting Raleigh-Durham, N.C. for San Juan, Puerto Rico, the 20th biggest metro area.)

It also enlisted AOL Digital City to count the number of nightclubs, bars and restaurants in each metro area and worked with Digital City and Montreal's McGill University to add up the museums, sports teams, university population and theaters. Woods & Poole Economics, headquartered in Washington, D.C., projected job growth for all 40 places over the next five years. Lastly, Forbes.com factored in what it called "buzz factor."

The winner was the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.
