Papa John's Aug. comps leap 5.4%

Aug. 29, 2005

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Papa John's announced domestic system-wide comparable sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 21, 2005, increased 5.4 percent (comprised of a 10.1 percent increase at company-owned units and a 3.8 percent increase at franchised units).

According to a news release, the boost at company stores was driven by an increase in transactions, while gains at franchised stores were born of ticket average increases.

Total system-wide international sales for the period increased 13.5 percent on a constant U.S. dollar basis, over the comparable period last year.

The company noted that flooding and electrical outages resulting from Hurricane Katrina shut down approximately 50 franchised units in the Gulf Coast area. It does not know when those units will reopen.
