LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Papa John's announced the signing of two large franchise agreements to open more than 100 stores in the Northeastern U.S. over the next several years.

According to a news release, 100 of those stores will be located in New York City and the surrounding areas of Brooklyn, the Bronx, Long Island and Queens.

Another store is slated to open in Cape May, N.J., and be followed by an undetermined number of units.

The release did not include a clear timetable for the new-unit openings.

Currently there are six Papa John's in New York City and 20 in New Jersey.

5 T's, LLC, will develop the New Jersey units, while six different franchise groups -- Manhattan Papa J's, LLC, Brooklyn Papa's, LLC, Team Graham, Inc., Profit Pizza Inc., Prime Pizza LLC and ABBE Capital and Leasing, LLC -- will develop the New York-centered units.

Papa John's currently operates 2,930 stores (2,788 Papa John's and 142 Perfect Pizza units) in 49 states and 11 international markets.
