LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Papa John's plans to expand a test program in which it sells a pizza and movie deal using a no-return DVD that expires in 48 hours.

According to Business First, the ez-D movies are recyclable, no-return DVDs that are viewable for 48 hours after opening.

"It makes sense for a movie to be part of the pizza experience," Gary Langstaff, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Papa John's, said in a news release cited by Business First. "We are encouraged by the consumer response to our use of ez-D in our test effort."

The actual cost of the meal-and-movie deal wasn't clear.

Papa John's and Los Angeles-based Flexplay Technologies Inc., have offered the ez-D movies in several markets since September, but starting in April and May, the test will be expanded to include markets in Phoenix, San Antonio, Denver and Florida.
