Papa John's Jan. comp-store sales rise 4%

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Papa John's International, Inc. announced its domestic systemwide comparable-store sales for the four weeks ended Jan. 25, 2004, rose 4 percent (composed of a 5.8 percent increase at company-owned units and a 3.4 percent increase at franchise units).

January comparable sales were unfavorably impacted approximately 1 percent by the timing of the Super Bowl, which was included in January results for 2003, but will be included in February results for 2004.

Accordingly, February 2004 comparable sales should be favorably impacted by approximately 1 percent. Both the January 2003 and January 2004 periods featured systemwide promotions supported by national television advertising.

Total systemwide international sales for the four weeks ended Jan. 25, 2004 increased 17.1 percent, on a constant U.S. dollar basis, over the comparable period last year.
