AUSTIN, Texas -- Wincor Nixdorf, Inc., a provider of open-system solutions for the retail and banking industries, has announced that Papa John's International has selected its BEETLE/NetPOS POS terminals as its next-generation hardware platform.
According to a news release, the BEETLE/NetPOS configuration includes the Linux operating system and a Wincor Nixdorf touchscreen. The company said more than 600,000 BEETLE units are in operation.
Papa John's selected Wincor Nixdorf because of its Linux expertise and its ability to help Papa John's migrate its text-based system to a graphical user interface (GUI)-based, touchscreen version platform. The change is expected to boost user efficiency and reduce training time.
"Wincor Nixdorf provided the most comprehensive solution for our requirements," said John Black, vice president of information services and e-commerce for Papa John's. "Running Linux on the sealed-chassis BEETLE systems should dramatically increase efficiency and lower the total cost of ownership over the life of the systems."
"Papa John's has earned a reputation for technology leadership, and was one of the first companies in the hospitality industry to embark on a Linux initiative," said Jeff Soisson, president of Wincor Nixdorf USA. "Papa John's is an innovative, forward-thinking company, and Wincor Nixdorf is pleased to be part of their Linux solution."
