Papa Murphy's enters pan fray with Sicilian Pan Pizza

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake Pizza has added a Sicilian Pan Pizza to its menu.

According to a news release, the pizza's crust is brushed with olive oil, topped with a hearty Sicilian pizza sauce, fire-roasted onions, pepperoni and Italian sausage, and mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

"Papa Murphy's has had great success with traditional and thin-crust options, and the Sicilian Pan Pizza expands our menu to include a wonderful pan-style crust," said Jeff Hill, chief strategic officer for Papa Murphy's International. "Papa Murphy's is always innovating and looking for ways to keep our menu fresh and exciting."

The Sicilian is served in a take-home aluminum baking pan and cooks in about 20 minutes. It's offered in original and family sizes; the original sells for $6.99.

The Sicilian's coming-out party falls less than a week after the launch of Papa John's Papa's Perfect Pan pizza, and just a few days behind the kickoff of Pizza Hut's 25th-anniversary celebration of the debut of its Pan Pizza, the chain's most successful product. A five-topping Papa John's pan sells for $12.99, while Pizza Hut is selling medium pans for 25 cents with the purchase of any menu-priced specialty pizza.
