Papa Murphy's using Web for electronic sale of gift certificates

The corporate crew at Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake in Vancouver, Wash., can breathe a sigh of relief this holiday season.

Web sales of the company's gift certificates have been outsourced to Salt Lake City-based Gift Check Solutions. No longer will the accounting staff at the world's largest take-and-bake pizza chain handle payments or mail certificates sold at its Web site. Now every transaction is conducted electronically.

Jeanne Embry, director of accounting at Papa Murphy's, said the gift certificates long have been sold at the store level. Through the Web, however, customers anywhere can buy them, choose where and to whom they want them shipped, and make payment online.

Embry said this is particularly beneficial to former Papa Murphy's customers who've moved to towns where the 660-store chain hasn't set up shop.

"This is an easy way for those people, who can't come to one of our stores, to send gift our certificates to others," she said.

As it has done for the past two years, Gift Check Solutions will manage the printing and fulfillment of Papa Murphy's gift certificates.
