The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation announced that Pennsylvania has joined ProStart, a two-year program that provides high school students a platform to discover interests and talents while opening doors to sustaining careers in the foodservice sector.
Students who complete the ProStart program are awarded a certificate of achievement, which makes them eligible for NRAEF scholarship opportunities and course credits at more than 75 nationwide culinary arts and hospitality schools.
ProStart students also have the opportunity to compete at the national level at the ProStart Invitational, a high school competition focused on restaurant management and culinary arts.
"We understand the value and importance of programs like ProStart in preparing students for careers in the restaurant industry and are thrilled to become the latest state to implement the curriculum," said John Doulgeris, COO of the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association. "We look forward to partnering with the NRAEF and supporting its mission to ensure the future of the restaurant industry has a highly-trained and professional talent pool."
