VINELAND, N.J. -- A local Papa John's operator made a surprise donation to Amelia Acosta's college fund on April 16.
According to The Daily Journal, the Vineland High School senior was surprised when Andy Galda, operations director for eight Papa John's in the area, interrupted her fifth period pre-calculus class to deliver a pie with an extra-special topping: a $1,000 scholarship.
When the box was opened, Acosta saw the check and a medal of achievement.
A total of three South Jersey students will get checks this year from Papa John's scholarship program, which is in its fourth year.
Galda also brought enough pizza to feed Acosta's classmates.
The report said Acosta will add the $1,000 to another $2,500 scholarship she received recently, and use the funds at Syracuse University this fall.
