INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. -- A pizza delivery driver died while working on Aug. 1 from injuries suffered in a collision with two vehicles.
According to the Press Journal, driver Chad Saunders, 20, of Fort Pierce, was airlifted to a West Palm Beach hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Sheriff's Detective Joe Flescher said Saunders, an employee of Big Apple, passed through a flashing red light to make a right turn and struck another vehicle. As both vehicles continued moving, they were then hit by another car. That collision wedged Saunders' car between the two others. According to witnesses, Saunders' car was so dismantled it looked as though it had been a convertible.
Passengers in the other vehicles suffered only minor injuries.
"From our preliminary investigation it appears that the red Saturn violated the traffic control device, which was intended for the vehicle to stop before entering into the intersection," Flescher. "We do not know the reason, if there was any reason, why the vehicle went through the intersection."
