Unique Pizza and Subs Corporation announced that Entrepreneur magazine has named Pizza Fusion a franchise industry "game-changer," owing largely to its green initiatives.
Unique Pizza and Subs Corporation signed a definitive agreement on Aug. 29 to acquire privately-held Pizza Fusion Holdings, with closing expected in the fourth quarter.
Entrepreneur has 3.4 million readers per month and 6 million unique visitors to its website monthly.
In naming Pizza Fusion a "game-changer," the publication wrote:
"Franchising is all about the status quo and repeatability—making incremental changes that can be replicated across hundreds of units. But more often than you'd think, something new bubbles up from the franchise world. New concepts, new ways of doing business and new technologies create the little ripples that have transformed franchising many times over the last few decades.
"Not only does Pizza Fusion use all organic and natural products, its buildings are built to LEED standards (four are certified), many of its delivery drivers use hybrid cars and each restaurant buys enough renewable energy credits to offset the power used in a year. It's something you might expect at a local-focused mom-and-pop sandwich shop, but it's a pretty ambitious agenda for a 21-unit franchise."
