Pizza Hut may be taking a page from rival Papa John's playbook. The chain announced today it has partnered with Hershey to rollout a new Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie. The dessert offering measures 8 inches and is cut into 8 slices, according to a news release.
It is being sold nationwide for $4.99 with the purchase of a pizza, or $5.99 on its own.
"When it came time for us to expand our dessert offerings, there was only one partner that could offer our customers the kind of quality and delicious taste experience they demand and that was Hershey's," CMO Carrie Walsh said in the release. "Hershey makes some of the world's most delicious treats and our Pizza Hut chefs are ecstatic to use iconic Hershey products on our dessert menu. Our fans are in for an amazing, and great-tasting, experience as a result of this expanded partnership."
Walsh told USA Today that the new cookie is aimed toward the Millennial demographic, as they "like to cap off a great pizza with a great dessert."
Papa John's introduced an 8-slice chocolate chip cookie in October 2013. That brand's dessert sold for $5.
‘The Ultimate Bake Sale promo'
To celebrate the launch of the Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie, "The Ultimate Bake Sale" will be held July 16 in which 10 percent of the sale of each cookie will go toward the World Food Programme. According to the release, The WFP is a global humanitarian agency that fights hunger. Pizza Hut will donate up to $50,000 from that day's fundraiser, and Hershey has agreed to match up to $50,000 as well.
