Pizza Hut corporate buys up 49 So. Cal. franchise units

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Pizza Hut corporate has purchased 49 units from RLLW, Inc., a franchisee operating in and around San Diego.

According to Pizza Hut spokesperson Julie Hildebrand, the sale occurred on July 24.

"Pizza Hut buys and sells markets on a regular basis," Hildebrand wrote in an e-mail. "(T)his buy was part of our changing portfolio."

RLLW has had its share of challenges in 2004. On May 27, it temporarily closed all 62 of its units because its workers' compensation insurance had lapsed (read 62 San Diego Pizza Huts shuttered temporarily). The units reopened four days later.

The company also is being sued by the San Diego County deputy district attorney for adding an energy surcharge to customer tickets (read Calif. Pizza Hut operator faces fines for charging energy fee).
