Pizza Hut drops soccer stadium sponsorship

Dec. 20, 2011

Pizza Hut Park in Dallas will be renamed FC Dallas Stadium after the Football Championship Subdivision title game is played on Jan. 7. The pizza chain dropped its sponsorship of the stadium, effective Jan. 1, to focus on other sports marketing channels.

The stadium opened in August 2005 as a 145-acre multipurpose sports and entertainment facility in Frisco, Texas. It is the home of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas.

According to ESPN.com, Pizza Hut signage will be removed within the next few weeks.

FC Dallas sent the following statement to ESPN.com about the decision:

"Pizza Hut, as the company has recently shown with some of its other venue agreements, has shifted its sports marketing philosophy and will no longer be our naming rights partner. We are actively searching for a new naming rights partner for the stadium and are in discussions with several interested companies. Meanwhile, after the FCS game on Jan. 7, we will be referred to as FC Dallas Stadium until a new deal is reached."
