Pizza Hut plans for 40 new stores in S.W. China

BEIJING -- Pizza Hut plans to invest at least 200 million yuan (U.S. $24.1 million) to open 40 restaurants in southwestern China within two years, a company official said.

The company currently has 100 units in China, all of which are corporate owned restaurants (See "China Pizza Huts remain corporate units for now.")

Beijing Business Today reported that Pizza Hut spokesman Tong Ruoming said the chain has 10 restaurants in the region and wants more in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing this year.

Pizza Hut opened its first China restaurant in Beijing in 1990.
